About us

Coastal Carolina University is a leading public institution in Conway, South Carolina, just nine miles from the resort destination of Myrtle Beach. With more than 12,000 students, CCU is known for its vibrant campus community, dedication to student success, and NCAA Division I championship-winning athletics. Founded in 1954, CCU is a designated Sea Grant and Space Grant university, reflecting its commitment to innovation in STEM education and its role in addressing key challenges facing the coastal region. The University provides a transformative educational experience through research, hands-on learning, and community partnerships. It also holds a Research Universities designation and a Community Engagement classification from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

A recognized leader in impact, CCU is home to South Carolina’s first space satellite program and the state’s only accredited Professional Golf Management program. It has also been named to The Princeton Review’s Mental Health Services Honor Roll for two consecutive years. Ranked among the top 4 most innovative colleges in the South by U.S. News & World Report and noted for its investment in research, CCU continues to advance its leadership in higher education.

The University comprises 115 main buildings across 621 acres, including the Coastal Science Center and the Burroughs & Chapin Center for Marine and Wetland Studies on the East Campus, and the General James Hackler Golf Course, a public 18-hole golf facility adjacent to campus. The University also offers courses and events at several satellite locations along the Carolina coast. A 1,105-acre tract, including a portion of Waties Island, provides a natural laboratory for extensive study in marine science and wetlands biology on an Atlantic coast barrier island.

Coastal Carolina University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award baccalaureate, master's, specialist, and doctoral degrees.
