About Us
Your transfer journey shouldn’t be complicated!
Transfer Explorer is the only non-profit, up-to-date, and authoritative credit mobility toolbox. It was developed to support students as they plan their educational journey by providing the opportunity to explore how credits transfer and apply to degrees. We do this by bringing together transfer data from colleges across the country, making it easy to see how course credits and prior learning experiences will transfer and count.
About the project
Transfer Explorer is a product of the Articulation of Credit Transfer (ACT) Project. Originating as a collaboration between the City University of New York (CUNY) and Ithaka S+R in 2019, the ACT project launched the groundbreaking CUNY Transfer Explorer (T-Rex) in 2020. Our guiding principle at Transfer Explorer is that all information about transferring to different colleges (particularly credit transfer) should be completely public and easily accessible for students and those who support them. We aim to also provide institutions with the data they need to improve policies and processes around transfer.
Transfer Explorer is powered by a collaboration between Ithaka S+R and JSTOR Labs, both divisions of ITHAKA, a nonprofit organization with a mission to improve access to knowledge and education for people around the world.
The data integration from member college source systems is powered by CampusAPI Requisite and Equivalency services from the nonprofit DXtera Institute.
Special thanks goes to our inaugural participating angencies and systems: the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities, City University of New York (CUNY), South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, and Washington Student Achievement Council.
Transfer Explorer was created with funding from Ascendium Education Group, the Gates Foundation, The Ichigo Foundation, and ECMC Foundation.
CUNY Transfer Explorer was built on the pioneering work of CUNY Queens College Professor Emeritus Christopher Vickery, with additional support by the Heckscher Foundation for Children and the Petrie Foundation.
